PAW- Paragraph A Week
Over the course of the week, students will be writing a paragraph. Each week will have a writing focus written by the student on the first page. The focus skills will build each week. For example, complete sentences are the first writing focus, the second skill is capitalization. Then the third week, students are expected to add sensory words. At this point they should still write in complete sentences and use correct capitalization.
Monday- Use a Thinking Map to brainstorm about a topic.
Tuesday- Using the brainstorm students will choose 3 of the most important ideas about the topic. These ideas will be the three details about the topic and should be written in complete sentences. Then, write an explanation sentence for each detail.
Wednesday- Students will compose a topic sentence and a closing sentence. The closing sentence should restate the topic sentence, using different words including synonyms.
Thursday- Students will put all of their work together into the form of a paragraph. They should reread it a make sure it makes sense. There should be lots of information.
